2000 AD Comics have enjoyed a near 50-year place in the hearts of fans. The franchise has spawned multiple generational character, with the most famous being Judge Joseph Dredd, the law enforcement officer in the dystopian future city, Mega-City One.
Created by writer, John Wagner and artist, Carlos Ezquerra, Judge Dredd first appeared in the weekly 2000 AD Comic in 1977. The judges are a one stop shop, empowered to arrest, convict, sentence and execute criminals.
2000AD was a launch pad for a generation of comic book greats, including Alan Moore, Garth Ennis, Grant Morrison, Brian Bolland and Jock.
Judge Dredd has been immortalised on the big screen twice, with Sylvester Stallone (1995), and Karl Urban (2012) taking the title role. More recently there has been speculation of a further reboot of the franchise, under the guidance of Taika Waititi…watch this space.
